RESUMO

To determine the effect of corona losses on transmission line transients, the pointmatched Time Domain Finite Element method (TDFE) was used. The time domain transmission line differential equations are solved via the finite element analysis and the leap-frog scheme. The Suliciu s model was used to represent the q x v characteristic of the conductor under corona. The implemented subroutine interfaces with the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). Using the line discretization inherent in TDFE method, the corona effect is computed by the capacitance variation. Good results were obtained, compared with experimental studies. The advantages of the TDFE method are the small code and processing time.
