RESUMO

The present work assumes the design coordination as the management of process dependencies, in other words, how to conduct them. It analyzes some dependencies of the design process of architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), based on a comprehensive theory about coordination process. In this context, the literature review seeks to understand the design process, management and dependencies. The design is understood as a product (building and drawing) and process (individual and collective), and its phases understood in the context of the project. Some principles (separation, and logical order planning) governing the design methodologies. These principles underpin practical difficulties existing between the technical disciplines, the project and restrictions on use of available resources. In this sense, coordination is seen as a way of driving, which is composed of components organizational, managerial and motivational. The field work to characterize the key aspects of the process through open interviews and semi-structured interviews with design professionals. Dependencies were identified in the early stages of "design" and "implementation" (construction), as well as actions taken to conduct the dependencies in practice. We performed direct observation of the work of professional engineering resources during a period of routine construction site. Organizational and procedural characteristics were considered. The outcomes show some needs such as management training of professionals (design and construction), technical training and a greater scope of work of design professionals. A training of construction activity was highlighted, as well as the need for a clear distribution and sharing of responsibilities, risks and benefits, among others.
