RESUMO

This work describes a microprocessor based communication aid prototype. This device is applied to nonvocal severely motor impaired people. The device features includes user assistance, lowering the number of strokes (strokes means user input operations) and maximizing the error free message rate. All these eftorts aim the improvement of the user s fluency (Communication Rate). The results here obtained lead to basic knowledge to be used in future developments to improve the life quality of the disabled. It must be mentioned that until the beginning oí this work, there had been few researches on communication aid devices in Brazil, and nothing had been passed to the community.
