RESUMO

The present study has been deveIoped so as to obtain a Decision Support System (DSS) which integrates the work with the various Iong and medium term Energetic Operation PIanning (EOP) models, using a reIational database and user friendIy interfaces. The main eIement considered is the effective and interactive access to the information, be it about the modeled system entities or about the use of the resources within a given modeling strategy. It guarantees the obtainment of effective decision policies within areas that involve uncertainty and risk. The Energetic PIanning Support System (SAPE) was deveIoped in Xview and Xlib, toolkits for the X Window System. The X System has become a pattern for graphic interfaces management in workstations that use the Unix operating system. The "Iook-andfeel" follows the OPENLOOK pattern used in Sun Openwindows. Today SAPE can be found in two versions, on1y different as far as the data management is concerned: one uses conventional Unix files, and the other uses ~ database management system (Ingres). The difference in performance between the two of them can be easily found: the use of a database management system provokes an overhead in the input and output processing. However, the consultation to tabIes of the reIational data model is made easier via SQL. Updating and deIetion can be made secureIy. SAPE by now has been tested in frequent studies by the group of the FAPESP s thematic project (90/3611-7) and in extension/upgrading courses (COSE) supported by EIetrobrás. The system has proved to be useful, for it permits the comfortable and fast configuration of studies, under different scenarios, hydrologies, etc. The graphic visualization of results and the access to different modeling techniques permit the obtainment of new different and reIevant nuances for the decision process.
