RESUMO

The bond mechanism between deformed bars and concrete is a complex phenomenon, influenced by many parameters. Many models have been developed over the years regarding this subject, but only a few have satisfactorily reproduced the physical phenomenon. In this work, to simulate the bond behavior, we propose a two-dimensional interface model where both concrete and steel are treated as continuous and the mechanical interlocking between the two materials is indirectly taken into account through a homogenization scheme. Employing the elasto-plastic constitutive model, yield surfaces are explicitly defined to represent the splitting and pullout failures. Consequently, the bond-slip relationship is obtained through analysis, rather than being input to the model. Damage in the interface is defined as a function of the rib spacing, so the model can be applied to di erent bar diameters. In order to capture the degradation of the bond due to the splitting of cracks along the axis of the bar, a non-local correction is introduced. This process is non-local in the sense that bond stresses at one particular point of the interface is, in fact, dependent of the conditions of the concrete surrounding the bar. Employing this approach, it is also possible to reproduce the confinement effect of the surrounding structure satisfactorily. The model is able to capture the transition from splitting, to pull-out, and to yielding of steel with the same set of pre-defined interface parameters, which demonstrates the predictive character of the model. The model is also coupled with a discrete fracture model in order to capture the development of primary cracks. Comparisons with experiments show a good agreement in all cases.
