RESUMO

Software Testing is critical for quality in software development and demands time and effort. Companies have invested a lot in test process aiming to prevent and detect defects. Regression testing is performed during software development cycle in order to guarantee that software maintenance or new feature integration did not introduce new defects in software areas previously tested. Manual regression testing is usually repetitive and demands substantial effort while automated regression testing enables test cycle reduction, increasing test coverage and software quality. Besides, it allows testers to focus on other types of tests that cannot be automated motivating companies to invest in automation test projects. A classical problem when automating regression tests is how to identify which test cases should be automated in order to obtain best results from automation. This work establishes a method to support regression test selection for automation based on a set of existing test cases aiming to define an effective scope of automation projects and automate the test cases that will bring more benefit to the test organization
