The essay uses as its theoretical basis the presupposition of the so called the new anthropology of dreaming`, term coined by Barbara Tedlock on an article of the same name publised on Dreaming: journal oj association for study of dreams, in 1991. For the new anthropology of dreaming`, the dream is analised as a shared communicative event able of remitting to the cultural features of a studied group. Its given attention to the context at which the dream is narrated, to the interpretative system of the own culture being studied and to the dreamer individual experience. Then, we draw an exposition of candomblé: from its beginning as african religion to its social organization and liturgy as an afro-brasilian cult. On the basis of the the new anthropology of dreaming, we analyse the dreams harvested on the field from categories found along the research: dreams nature, initiation dreams, sexual dreams, ebós and dreams, the messengers dreamers and the shape of orixás in dreams. Also, we display some of the most complete cases where we could analyse the dreams at one of its foremost functions: the religious calling.
