RESUMO

We have studied the effects of chaos on the tunneling of particles. As a model we used a one dimensional double well-type quartic potencial, perturbed by a periodic driving. The driving force introduces chaos and the sistem becomes mixed, exhibiting islands of regular motion immersed in a sea of chaos in its classical phase space. By altering the amplitude and the frequency of the periodic driving we were able to vary the number, disposition and size of the regular islands, and the amount ou chaos in between them. We studied the propagation of localized wave packets in this potential, using them as semiclassical representations of particles. We observed that, in the semiclassical regime in which we have worked (localized wave packets), the region of interest is the border between regularity and chaos. The main quantum effect at play in this region is re ection, not tunneling. We observed however, that the presence os chaos favours the tunneling of wave packets in this regime.
