RESUMO

The seeking for new technologies that aim costs reduction and quality and productivity improvement, has pushed the steelmakers to develop the near-net shape casting processes. One of these processes, the Thin Slabs Continuous Casting (TSCC), has been very diffused in hot strips and sheets production. In this work it will be showed the results of the thin slabs solidification in laboratory scale (using the TSCC Simulator of Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica) and the thermomechanical treatment applied to the these microalloyed steel (0,07%C, 0,07%V e 0,02%Nb) thin slabs obtained. The results of macro and microstructure confirm the viability ofthe thin slabs physical simulation. For the thermomechanical treatment was adopted two temperatures for beginning of rolling (1000 and 900°C), in order to verify its influence on mechanical properties and microstructure. It was observed that temperature variation from 1000°C to 900°C raised the yield stress from 400 to 420 MPa due to ferritic grain size reduction from 11 to 6,5 Ilm, without any influence on other ana1ysed properties (elongation and necking). It was also ana1ysed the variation of the chemical composition, since the slabs were melted in a not-controlled-atmosphere induction fumace. It was not detected any influence of the small variation of chemical composition on properties and microstructure
