RESUMO

The "TRAPP" Project meant to address the non-documented, precarious or dangerous jobs in the informal market with the collective approach of health services workers in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). The objectives were to detect risks of work related diseases and accidents besides identifiable forms of danger and precariousness in the sector, through the action of teams of Community Health Agents (ACS). A combination of epidemiologic and focus groups intervention was set, using sentinel events and places of a population based team and designing data collection forms and intervention proposals together with local community leaders. The epidemiologic and social information subsidized focus groups of multi-professional health workers teams (NCS) to discuss and find out adequate means for intervention. A twelve months prospective follow-up detected 115 workers that reported working the median and mean time of 30 hours/week (standard error of 1.267). There were 184,444 estimated yearly worked/hours during the 52 weeks period. The accidents ftequency rate was 10.4% a year or 6.5 per 100 thousand worked hours. The proportion of lost work time was 0.36% (670/184,444 h). The ACS strategy was based in building family links and trust that information would not be passed to the state repressive institutions. This raised a potential unsolved conflict with the purpose of carrying out work accidents surveillance
