RESUMO
The purpose of this thesis was to reflect about the romance?s consecration process along the XIXth century in Brazil. We ascertained that this kind of literature wasn?t a priori included in the national literary patrimony, but contrariwise, was the result of a lengthy and complex process of historical construction, once the romance was absent in the firsts anthologies, which project were ground the national literature, published between 1830 and 1850 decades. Therefore, we searched the critical discourses about the romance, under editorial forms which was a capacity of consecration, like that appointed to scholar system (literary histories, literature courses, anthologies and rhetoric treatises), and the periodical press, where this kind of literature was object of critical discourses? attention
