Training teachers for the SUS: a health and pedagogical challenge / Formação de docentes para o SUS: um desafio sanitário e pedagógico

RESUMO

In view of the growth in the field of education for health professionals in the SUS (the Brazilian national health system) in recent years, and the investments made in this area as a result of the National Policy for Continuing Education in Health (Decree 1996/07), increasing numbers of health professionals are assuming a teaching role without having adequate preparation in areas of pedagogy or health, since the graduation courses do not prepare them to work in the public service. In this context, the objective of this work was to develop abilities in the areas of health and teaching methodology among health professionals of the Tocantins State Health Department, through four workshops which were attended by eight health professionals acting as teachers in one of the courses offered by the Tocantins State Health Department. The content of the workshops was analyzed based on Fleck‟s epistemological categories ([1935] 1979), using a qualitative approach. It was possible to identify four Thematic Analysis Blocks, culminating in five conclusions: 1) The educative action is only of value if it promotes reflection on the ways people see and conceive the health-sickness process; 2) To teach, within the Sistema Único de Saude (SUS), is to introduce a holistic way of thinking; 3) The training of teachers for the SUS should promote a move away from a Biomedical way of thinking towards a holistic one, within the field of health, and from a traditional way of thinking to a Progressive one, within the field of pedagogy; 4) The teacher‟s practice may intentionally complicate or maintain a way of thinking; 5) The training of teachers for the SUS should lead to the creation of a collective way of thinking. This research contributes to the development of a pilot experiment of the course in teacher training for healthcare, based on health and pedagogical competencies, and proposes a matrix, based on the research results, that will serve as a reference for the curricular creation of courses for the qualification of teachers within the SUS
