RESUMO

The intraosseous implants have been used more and more for oral rehabilitation in edentulous patients. The radiographic exam is a very important auxiliary in the preoperative implant procedure planning, evaluating with precision the morphological characteristics and dimensions of the alveolus in the implantation area. The literature indicates the utilization of the Conventional Tomography as a presurgical exam for the patients, but this exam provide augment images. However, there are few reports which clearly demonstrates the importance of the correct determination of the augment in Conventional Tomography units and the consequences of this augment can represent to the final result of the images measures. In this work, we used the Conventional Tomography technique in eight totally edentolous regions of seven dry human skulls. Were made slices perpendiculars to the arch contour using the units: Quint Sectograph, Orthopantomograph OP100 and the Planmeca 2002 CC Proline. The images were measured and compared with the anatomic values. The data were statistically processed and showed that when the real values were compared with the radiographic values, the average of the measures obtained with the Quint unit presented a tendency in approximate to the real values. The values obtained with OP 100 and PM2002 were different comparing with the Quint unit, resulting in higher metric values than the real values. When comparing the real values with the radiographic values discounting the augment suggested by the manufacturers, the average of the measures obtained with Quint, OP 100 and PM 2002 resulted in lower metric values compared with the anatomic values. When compared the real values with the radiographic values discounted of the augment obtained by the image of the guidance, the averages of the measures obtained with Quint, OP 100 and PM2002 were similar to anatomic values
