RESUMO

The objective of this work is to understand how the field of Organizational Studies (OS) is configured and taught on Stricto Sensu post-graduate courses in Brazil so as to be able to ana-lyze the influence of this teaching on the consolidation of the field. A qualitative, descriptive and exploratory survey was carried out making use of the records of nine post-graduation courses in Administration at various institutions (EAESP/FGV/SP, EBAPE/FGV/RJ, UFBA, UFMG, UFPE, UFPR, UFRGS, UFSC and UNB) and 17 semi-structured interviews with lecturers who teach on them as well as an analysis of institutional and teaching documents and a literature review. For the interpretation of the data the content was analyzed and divided into 5 categories: lecturer profiles, representation of knowledge, curriculum design, teaching prep-aration and practice in the classroom. It was observed that the field of OS constitute the main axis of course programs but is taught in a repetitive and unstructured manner at the two levels of post-graduation (Masters and PhD). The teaching materials are chosen and adapted accord-ing to the changes in the teaching staff of the institution or with the interaction of the staff on the programs. Furthermore, the teaching material is predominantly foreign and influenced by power relations over time. The teaching process affects the challenges in delimiting the field of study of OS as it reinforces the separation of theory and its application. It is, for the most part, decontextualized from Brazilian reality and further encourages publications of poor qual-ity.
