RESUMO

This dissertation aims to investigate the speaking production in English language in Letras undergraduation courses in Belém-Pa, under a perspective of discourse genres (Bakhtin, 1992; Bazerman, 2005). For that purpose, class observations were made in two colleges and the textbooks used in those groups were collected in order to compare the methodological proposals within the books and what is done in classroom in fact. They were analyzed focusing the speaking activities, if they have explicit or implicit the idea of discourse genre in their development and the treatment given to the oral language present in them. Also, questionnaires were applied to professors and students of the observed groups. The analysis of the data reveals that the notion of language as genre is yet insipient in the development of oral activities and there is a necessity of a variety of oral genres as object of study during the undergraduation course, once one of the only ones studied is the dialogue.
