RESUMO

The present dissertation consists of the investigation in formative processes involved in the construction of the coastal shellmound, Jabuticabeira II, SC. This takes into consideration the fact that the shellmounds are structures purposely built by a population in process of sedentary development, demographic densification and complexity in the social organization. This study is done as from detailed stratigraphy analyses of the already open sections and documented from various areas of the site, which consider its morphology, constitution, recurrence and strata increment, the association between the layers, as well as the dating processes obtained for the understanding of its chronology formation. In this dissertation it is intended the description in detail of the formative processes involved in the construction of the site. It is also aimed at defining possible standards which form the composition and the stratigraphy organization and proposes explanatory models for the involved processes in this construction
