RESUMO

This research work analyzes physics difuseness process through teaching activity in three higher educational institutions in Pará State: Escola de Engenharia (college of engineering), Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras (college of philosophy, science and art) and Núcleo de Física e Matemática (physics and mathematics department) of Pará University, in the period beginning from the foundation of Escola (College) to the establishing of the Reforma Universitária (universitarian reform) in 1970. The political and historical contexts that motivated the foundation of the institutions, the graduation of teachers, the teaching programmes of physics disciplines which were taught in graduation courses of the referred instituions, their directorsspeeches, former teachersand studentsdeclarations as well as the resources and methodologies which were used in the teching process. My purpose was to show how the transition in physics teaching from Escola de Engenharias engineers to Faculdade de Filosofias mathematicians occurred, as well as the transition from the latter to the physicists who congregated at Núcleo de Física e Matemática (physics and mathematics department). At first, I tried to show the changings of physics themes that happened in the taught disciplines, comparing the aims they were meant for. Sometimes serving as a conceptual basis for the engineers, sometimes serving as support to insert the mathematicians in professorship and sometimes intended to consolidate the physicists profissionalization. I also emphasized the comings and goings of both the physicists and the mathematicians in search for a specific graduation in physics in other research and teaching centres in other States, particularly at Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia (national college of philosoply), Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (Brazilian physical research centre) and São Paulo University. In this sense, the foundation, in 1961, of Núcleo de Física e Matemática (mathematics and physics department) represented the social space of physics difuseness where converged and diverged interests, and the quantitative broadening in physics teaching dominion at Universidade Federal do Pará (federal Pará University). This moment consolidated itself with the foundation of Curso de Graduação de Licenciatura em Física (bachelor degree in physics course) in 1965. I concluded that, despite the distances concerning to the centres which diffuse sciences in Brazil, physics teaching in Pará was in resonance with paradigmal changes that ocurred in the national scientific community. At last, I also concluded that there was a significant contradiction among the formalism of physics contents expressed in Programas de Ensino (teaching programmes) which followed the metropolitan models and the effective reality deeply experienced by the personages who took part in the spreading process of this discipline.
