RESUMO

This research entitled The Documentary Work of João Batista de Andrade, was made in three years and had the following objectives: a) make a complete research about the entire filmography of documentary produced by João Batista de Andrade along forty years of career and nearly seventy movies that were made by him? b) analysis of nine films deemed essential by thematic innovations and esthetic? c) realization of a complete interview with the film maker, having his process production, choices, methodology and dialogues of his documentaries as the central theme. For this paper could be made, an ample reading literature was essential, in addition to extensive research in a variety of documentation files at the Cinemateca Brasileira, MISSP, CCSP, TV Cultura, Itaú Cultural, besides the libraries of ECA/USP and the Arts Institute of Unicamp. In the search for data, mainly relating to technical fiches, some confusing informations were founded, with many incomplete names and dates that could be in conflicts with others. The bibliographic research extended the horizon of the discussions about the construction of the brazilian history and the history of the brazilian cinema. At the end of this work, we got an unprecedented search composed of five chronological chapters in which is possible to follow the human and professional trajectory of João Batista, a full collection of primary information (technical fiches, synopsis and the locations of his films) and, finally, the transcription of a record of an interview conducted in three days with the film maker, which generated lots of information that can be used as complement of this work, besides of being an important audiovisual material
