RESUMO

The present study consists of an analysis of Cornélio Penna s fiction focusing on the intersection between both religious and social dimensions in his work. In its analytical path, the notion of Itabirismo, conceived by the novelist, highlights his journey into the Brazilian cultural background, as well as the dialogue between his fiction and the Catholic novel from the beginning of the 20th century.
