RESUMO

The research objectives were stud the knowledge degree and acceptance of hemocomponents and hemoderivatives, fresh and stored, by Jehovahs Witnesses, and also propose bioethical tools for any ethical and moral conflicts identified in their relationship with physicians and dentists. The method was the use of questionary research with 150 Jehovah s Witnesses who attend Kingdom Salons from Distrito Federal, Brazil. The questionnaires looked for questions like the socio-cultural aspects related to the use (or do not use) of hemocomponents and hemoderivatives by the researched, and also the health care professionals attitude face to the patients religion. As results: 74% believe that the use of blood causes more harm than benefits to health - this refusal foundation is specially biblical; 96% don t support hemocomponents, but 76% support hemoderivatives in specific situations, showing that particular understandings do exist; 80% feel morally offended with stored blood use and only 46% with fresh blood, confirming the religious interpretation that fresh products are in general more accepted; according to 83% of the researched, dentists do not ask about patients religion, against 72% of the physicians, setting up not enough concern about this aspect. Concerning all this, Jehovahs Witnesses are seen by their moral stranger (in case, physicians and dentists) as the religious group that simply do not use blood. Although, several blood treatments are nowadays permitted. Although it doesnt private then, under their free minded opinion, to refuse blood treatments. Their particular understandings frequently enlarges the blood prohibition list and, consequently, the number of moral conflicts, if we also take that physicians and dentists arent used to ask about patients religion in the clinical research.
