RESUMO

Psychoanalysis and the arts have always been attracted to each other. Freud and Lacan use much of literature, plastic arts, music and theater to illustrate important psychoanalytic concepts. This dissertation intends to show the relationship between psychoanalysis and literature, especially poetry. Through the work of the Portuguese writer and poet Teixeira de Pascoaes (1877-1952), the mains representative of nostalgia and one of the most prominent figures of the Portuguese culture of the twentieth century, and the Brazilian poet Manoel de Barros, considered by many the greatest Brazilian living poet, we will ratify how literature was key in building the theoretical base of Freud and Lacan and other great authors of psychoanalysis. We will use the poetry of Pascoaes and Barros to exemplify concepts such as instinct, the unconscious and sublimation, this last, unfinished by the father of psychoanalysis. We will also show how the works of both poets somehow meet
