RESUMO

Information and Communication Technologies in music teacher formation is the topic of this research. Art teacher formation has been offered with no consistency and in a way which has no articulation between theory and practice and between Art and Pedagogy. While investigating art teacher formation in this research, the focus was to recover some teaching procedures related to the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in graduation courses. From instigating reflections, the main goal of this work was established: to make an analysis of the use of ICT in the process of music teacher formation, considering legal and curriculum foundations for music teacher formation; chosen procedures in graduation courses for music teachers in one high education institute in the South of Brazil; and a comparison between what is stated in the curriculum of the institution and the documents produced from pedagogic work with students of music teacher graduation course. The chosen methodology for this study is based on the principles of quantitative research and it gave a good support for the field research. In November 2005 the first arrangements with the Coordination of Music Graduation Courses and talks with music teachers occurred. In the first semester of 2006 questionnaires were applied to 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade students and their teachers. The theoretical basis of this research comes from Behrens, Masetto and Moran (2004) for teacher formation, new technologies and pedagogical mediation; Mello (2004) for reflections about Brazilian school education in XXI Century, concepts, difficulties and possibilities of ICT; Sancho Hernandez (2006) for different ways to use ICT in teaching and problems education has been facing; and Brito and Purificação (2006) for the relationship between technologies and education as an opportunity to redefine school pedagogic practices. This study took special care to avoid being considered as an evaluation of the graduation course where the data came from and to consider the data as an instrument for reflection and analysis of the use of ICT in music teacher formation.
