RESUMO
The genus Philosepedon Eaton, 1904 was proposed to Psychoda humeralis Meigen, 1818 by monotype. The taxonomic position of Philosepedon in Psychodinae and its diagnose are controversial. Here, it is proposed a new diagnose to genus. The objective of this study was study the Brazilian fauna of Philosepedon, a genus poor studied in this country. 185 specimens were examined from collections of INPA, MZUEFS, DZUP and NHM, from the Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Paraná and Santa Catarina states. All the specimens were treated with 10% KOH and mounted in Canada balsam and its structures illustrated and characterized. In this study, 21 new species were found, and studied the type-material of four Brazilian species of Philosepedon. The following synonymy is proposed to Philosepedon: Feuerborniella Vaillant, 1974, n. syn., with the following new combinations P. obscura (Tonnoir, 1919) n. comb., P. spathipenis (Duckhouse, 1968) n. comb., P. plaumanni (Duckhouse, 1968) n. comb., P. malayensis (Satchell, 1955) n. comb. and P. veracruzana (Ibáñez-Bernal, 2004), n. comb.. Three species from Philosepedon are transferred to Threticus Eaton, 1904: T. calabens (Quate, 1965) n. comb., T. mutabilis (Quate, 1965), n. comb. and T. soljani (Krek, 1971), n. comb.. One specie from Philosepedon is transferred to Eurygarka Quate, 1959: E. aliciae (Ibáñez-Bernal e Cáceres, 2005), n. comb..
