RESUMO
In spite of the apparent facility of build Web pages given by current visual environments, the development over the Word Wide Web is complex due to many factors such as the evolving nature of applications, the multidisciplinary nature of development team, the competitive points of views for the application and complexity of user requirements, and the unrealistic and narrow schedules for the development. To deal with such as complexity, modelling support is essential to help designers to decompose complex applications in smaller and manageable parts, to increase communication into development team and to reduce ambiguity. Traditional methods and models successfully employed in the development of hypermedia systems and traditional software have been demonstrated insufficient to deal with Web design due Web special features such as the navigation. Currently modelling methods provide little support to describe in complete and unambiguous manner navigation in web applications even though navigation is considered as a critical element. The present work is motivated by the need of methods to improve navigation modelling of Web applications. We provide a review about the notion of navigation and its related features as well as the relationship between the navigation and other application aspects such as domain application and presentation models. This thesis proposes: -A formal description technique namely StateWebCharts (SWC), which extends StateCharts models, to model the navigation of Web applications; -A design environment supporting the edition and simulation of models described in this formalism.
