RESUMO

The qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the use and exploration of water resources at a watershed has been relevant on environmental context. The soil moisture consists of an important hydrological variable that determine the evapotranspiration and surface runoff production. This work aimed to analyze the spatial and temporal behavior of the soil moisture at a headwater watershed on Mantiqueira Range, Minas Gerais. The soil moisture was monitored between may/07 and may/08, in the surface layer (0-20 cm), each 15 days. Exponential, spherical and gaussian semi-variogram models were adjusted applying minimum weighted square, minimum ordinary square and maximum likelihood methodologies, testing the adherence based on spatial dependence degree and cross validation. The mapping was conducted on the basis of the best semi-variogram adjusted, using the ordinary kriging. To analyze of soil moisture, in each land-use at watershed, we used the simulation kriging (block kriging). It was observed greater water deficit on beginning of spring season, especially in the first October fortnight, with values around 21% (volume base). The season of the greate soil moisture on watershed was the last 10 days of December, with the values close to 40%. In addition, we could observe relevant influence of the native vegetation (Atlantic Forest) on maintenance of water storage in soil and better efficiency of soil moisture storage in this ecosystem.
