RESUMO

In this work an analytical method is proposed to study the solidification in systems with radial heat flux. The method is developed from the equation that treats the solidification in systems with unidirectional heat flux, that is modified by geometric correlation and convenient changes of variables. The modified equation is solved by using the well known exact solution based on the error function and equations are obtained to analyse the solidification rates and temperatures. A series of comparisons of experimental results, numerical predictions and calculations furnished by the proposed analytical method were made. Finally the equations are applied to examine the differences observed between the solidification of metals in moulds with unidirectional (slabs) and radial (cylinders and spheres) heat flux
