RESUMO

This work presents the design and implementation of a system that allows the measurement of complex impedances using a six-port network at microwave frequencies. The six-port device used was a "sampled line" microstrip. The basic theory is presented initially, followed by an outline of the hardware and software developed to interconnect the six-port with a PC microcomputer. A calibration routine is presented that avoids any iterative process and, therefore, is rapidly executed. Several measurements are presented in the low microwave range (up to 4 GHz) and are compared with the corresponding values obtained using a commercial network analyser. Good agreement is obtained in most cases. Suggestion to upgrade the system is presented.Low cost and easy portability are good reasons that recommends the use of this system for teaching purposes
