RESUMO

The interest in polyaniline (PAni) comes from the fact that polymers obtained from aromatic derivatives containing nitrogen linked to the ring can be easily synthesized and each derivative may exist jn several distinct oxidation states, also they can be "doped" by different dopants by non redox, as well as by partial chemical or electrochemical oxidation. These properties combined with a relatively low cost of several anilines, electrical conductivity of PAni, low density, possibility of processing and satisfactory environment stability indicate a large potential for technological applications. In this work we used statistical methods of experimental planning for optimization of the synthesis of PAni, intending to reach higher yields and conductivities, the use of a minimal amount of reactants and the generation of the lower amount as possible of residues, evaluating the influence of each reactant in the media. We established a methodology for the production of polyaniline in a pilot plant scale obtaining enough material for the development of several projects that include conductive polymers. The materiais obtained by several methodologies of synthesis were characterized with emphasis to the yield and electrical conductivity .We studied the processing of PAni using organic acids as dopant and plasticizer in an internal mixer through the register of the torque curve as a function of time and temperature. An open roll mill was used to obtain films. This processing form is applicable to large scale production. The materiais were characterized by electrical conductjvity, elementary analysis, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (TGA and DSC) and FTIR.
