RESUMO

This work aimed the study of silver nanoparticles synthesized by chemical reduction to their application in textiles, exploiting the bactericidal power of metallic silver. After an introduction to nanotechnology, colloidal stabilization of nanoparticles and the properties of silver as a bactericidal agent, it was discussed the methods of synthesis by reduction with sodium citrate (Turkevitch et al., 1951) and sodium borohydride (Lee and Meisel, 1982) seeking a standardization and reproducibility of the methods since the literature is contradictory regarding the conditions of synthesis. Colloidal solutions of silver nanoparticles with variations of 12 nm to 50 nm on average were obtained from the practice, characterized by visual analysis of color and UV-visible spectroscopy, with various tests of stabilization in the short and long term, determining the best means of polymeric stability. Likewise, the methods of synthesis were standardized such as reaction time, reagent concentration, temperature, agitation time and pH ensuring the reproducibility of the syntheses. The colloidal solutions synthesized remained stable, which allows their large-scale manufacturing for applications in textile substrates such as antibacterial bandages as well as the basis for implementing protective in various bacteriostatic materials such as fabrics, foams and topical products
