RESUMO
134 boys and girls (age range two to 13 years) referred to our child psychiatric clinic, were diagnosed as hiperkinetic based on the KNOBEL et cols.,1959, crite- ria. After observation of each child ´s behaviour in a "playing activity" they were defined in two subtypes childhood hiperkinesis: constant and situational. The two groups were matched by sex, age and social conditions with two control groups. As controls we used two groups with 100 children each: one with children referred to our child psychiatric clinic that received other diagnostic than hyperkinetic syndrome; - other with children of general population. After pediatric evaluations, developmental neurological examination, electroencephalogram, psychiatric evaluation (parents`s interview and child`s observation in playing activity) the data were annalyzed through X2 and Discriminant Function Analysis. We concluded that the two hyperkinetic groups differed from each other and from the controls by the following characteristics: feelings about the child during pregnancy; type of delivery; durations of breast feeding; position of the child in the brotherhood; neuropsycomotor development; developmental neurologic examination; EEG; family structure and schooling
