RESUMO

This Work consists of a cephalometric and radiological study with the aim of estimating the fortuitons differences of cranio facial growth rates between twvo groups of individuals: one of them composed by individual with Down s Syndrome (test-group) and another composed by normal individuals (control group). The test-group was composed by 13 individuals, seven of them of mascul ine sex and six of them of feminine sex, and the control - group composed by 14 individuaIs, seven of each sex, and the age -grade of the test-group similar to the control-group. For each individual, one teleradiograph in lateral way and in center occlusion was taken, and on this teleradiograph we trace one cephalogram, and from this we got (both linear an angular) cephalometric measurements studied. The analysis of regression with binary variables was applied to these data. The angular and linear parameters were determined and their significance was tested by test "t". Considering. the results, we could compare the possible differences among the growth rates of variables in analysis according to the sex or to the presence or absence of Down s Syndrome. We wish to point out that the variations of the growth rates correspondent to the angular variables stand for a modification of the own variable, whose interpretation needs an enough criterium, considering the fact that angular variables are determined by more than one anatomical struture. Through the results of the studied samples, we check the values, correspondent to the growth rates applied to all the linear variables, were smaller in the test-group, but not significantly. On the other hand, for the values SNB, FMA, L.Y. N-Me, the factor sex influences signlficantly on the growth rates.
