RESUMO

The restructuring of Brazilâs power sector has stimulated new studies about distributed power generation. As the governmental strategy proposes a larger share for natural gas in the energetic matrix, many research groups has been concentrating their studies in cogeneration, specially using natural gas. For example, the COGENCASA project studies a residential microcogeneration system installed on UFPE. The microcogeneration system components of the COGENCASA project are a microturbine, an Otto engine, a compression chiller, an absorption chiller, a hot water storage tank, a cold water storage tank and a climatized room. The main aims in the COGENCASA project are to perform comparative studies of equipments performance and to develop a financial optimization method of the plant through a model created in Matlab and Simulink. The optimization is performed over the mode of operation of each one of the equipments, in agreement with a task configuration system. This task configuration system is the responsible to turn on and off each equipament and to choose the level of the generated power. The task configuration system uses 27 keys (26 binary and 1 with 5 position) to determine the system behavior. Is possible to generate 335,544,320 (2^26 *5) operation mode. The net present value of each one of these modes is calculated. The thermal and electric demands are variable along the day, as the tariffs. The case study is focused on the optimization of the equipment selection and the mode of operation. After the design optimization, the behavior of the system is studied against different demands
