RESUMO

A new mathematical treatment is proposed to the hybrid method of charge simulation and finite differences for the computation of unbounded electrostatic fields, also applicable to the similar hybrid method of charge simulation and finite elements. The charge simulation problem is solved by making use of the least squares technique, including the QR decomposition of the resulting rectangular matrix, and the classical or the modified Gram-Schmidt method. The Conjugate Gradient Squared method with a preconditioning technique is proposed for the solution of the finite difference problem, which is stored in the computer with adequate sparsity techniques. The resulting coupled system of linear equations is solved by making use of some results of the fixed point theory. New procedures are also suggested for the discretization of the boundary conditions, which lead to results of increased precision. Case studies are included and the results are analysed
