RESUMO

This work presents the development of a computational mathematics model, which was applied to study of medium carbon ingots steel solidification in cylindrical cast iron mold. The numerical method utilized was the Finite-Difference Method. Firstly, the results obtained with the application of the numerical modeI was compared with experimental results obtained by solidification of a small cylindrical steel ingot, analising the reliability of the model. Subsequently, the model was adapted to analysing the solidification of a greater cylindrical ingot and the objective was to correlate solidification parameters with ingot thermal profiles, during solidification and cooling processo The influence of insulation and exothermic powder practice on thermal profiles was also studied
