RESUMO

The aim of this work is to present a computational model for the simulation of an industrial furnace used for steel billet reheating. The model allows to vary the operational conditions of the furnace thus consequentially the heating profile of the billets. The model was developed using the Finite Volumes Method for a 3D transient moving system. Both the billet and flame temperature distributions are determined in a coupled way. The furnace produces up to 60 ton of steel per hour, burns gas natural and operates on a continuous base. The obtained results were used on the validation of the model. There were realized several parametric studies to investigate the influence of the operational variables on the behavior of the furnace.
