RESUMO

This dissertation consists of a theoretical study. The primary objective of this work is to discuss the literature on the informal sector in search of new approaches for the analysis of the informality contexto Addressing the different types of informal production and the relationships between them was necessary to understand the role and the degree of subordinationof these activities to the process of capitalist accumulation. The first chapter reviews the Theory of Marginality. The second chapter addresses the origins of the informal sector and discusses issues about the relationships between the informal sector and the formal sector to suggest the use of "informality" as a broader concept. The third chapter presents the different forms taken by informal labor in Brazil and discusses how the developmentof capitalism is reshaping new forms of labor force use
