RESUMO
This research is part of the discussions about the history of abandoned children in Brazil during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. We seek to understand, through quantitative analysis and case studies, what was the meaning of being exposed child in the past centuries. For this, we used different documents that explained the complexity of the "circulation of children," noting the different patterns of practice. Welfare has portrayed the role of local council, which can show us what the abandonment represented public offers. Finally, we find that to be abandoned not meant to be an unqualified social; sometimes children could improve their social representation to be abandoned.
