RESUMO

The agro-tourism is growing in Brazil as an alternative means to promote the agricultural development, to increase the income of small rural producers and, at the same time, to stimulate the preservation of natural resources, the cultural aspects and the agricultural landscape. However, its planning is still incipient, realized mostly by the property owners interested in its development. It is important that the planning process considers the agro-tourism attributes in different levels: from the regional perspective to the district; the agricultural area of the district and the farm. This should be done in such a way that the agro tourist can enjoy tourist activities, leisure activities and varied entertainment activities necessarily associated, even indirectly, to the agricultural practice, cattle raising and forestry. This study develops a methodological guideline in order to map and classify the potentiality of agricultural lands for the development of agro-tourism in 3 levels (regional, district and farm), integrating conservationist ideas and environmental planning. As a case study was selected a region including 9 cities of the watershad of Rio Mogi-Guaçú SP, some of which are part of the ?São Paulo Circuit of Waters?, cities of established tourist tradition but having a high natural potential risk for soil erosion. In this region the areas of maximum potentiality to the agro-tourism were defined considering the indicatives for the agriculture and cattle raising, conservation, tourism and for the physical and social infrastructure. For each attribute one weight was given, according to its importance to the agro-tourism. Such procedures had been performed following a hierarchy of spatial scales with different territorial extensions and using an increasing sequence detailing the used pointers. The integration of the data was performed using a System of Geographic Information (software ENVI and IDRISI). From the resulting products of the overlapping maps of environment attributes, agriculturists, tourist and of physical and social infrastructure, the areas were classified according to their use restriction. Thus, portions of the land with greater potentiality for the agro-tourism were defined so that each inserts into each other in order to compose a concentrative nucleus of attributes, where the agro tourist will be able to find diversity and good quality of attractive environments
