RESUMO

Schistosoma mansoni: activity of oxamniquine and praziquantel of different development stages of MAP and OuH strain in vivo. The MAP strain of Schistosoma mansoni offers resistence to oxamniquine in its adult phase while the OuH strain recently isolated in the field, seems to have less susceptibility to oxamniquine and also to praziquantel. It was analized the young shapes of the worm (Iung and skin phase) together with the adult phase. Mice infected with 120 cercariae by one of the strain, were treated by oral rote in an only dose of oxamniquine (500 mg/Kg) or praziquantel (350 mg/Kg); 24 hours (skin phase), 7 days (Iung phase) or 45 days (adult phase) afier infection. Treated mice and controls were perfused 60 days afie r the adminstration of drug and it was done an evaluation of the drugs activity, so that the alive worms were recovered; classified according to their location (liver or mesenteric veins) sex and mating. It was also done an oogram and setting % efficacy. The results with the doses used in it showed that oxamniquine is not effective even imature forms of MAP strain but, by the other side it is 100% effective against OuH strain. Praziquantel show low activity against immature formes and high activity against adult forms in both strains. Factors related to host and mainly to own characteristics of each strain, must have the prime role in the drugs action in different stages of Schistosoma mansoni development
