RESUMO

This study aims to investigate what conceptions the basic health attention professionals have about the relationship between mental health and territory and about the deployment process of mental health within the territory. This process is very complex and includes notions about what means mental health in basic attention, what a mental health problem is, how to configure the demand for mental health, how it should be attended and what is the purpose of this attendance. First we perfomed a bibliography research about mental health in basic attention, then present some conceptions about the concept of territory and introduce some psychoanalytic concepts related to psychical constitution and helplessness. We assume that the territory has the support role of subjectivity. Data collection was performed by six focal groups with professionals of the Basic Attention network health of the city of Campinas. These groups were audio-recorded, transcribed and organized using the reference of the critical hermeneutics. From the work of analyzing the data emerged three categories: Workers knowledge about the population, Subjectivity and social precariousness - mental health demand and Psychological pain responses. It was found that the Family Health Strategy of privileging the territory propitiates a greater linking and opens new possibilities for intervention, however it also provokes a series of resistances. Workers recognize the link between the demand for mental health and social vulnerability and develop some practices and devices to deal with the issue. They recognize the excessive use of medication in response to suffering and helplessness, but at the same time appear new perspectives on mental suffering, new devices for intervention and the social construction of places that propitiate the development and treatment of mental suffering. The matrix appears as a powerful device to assist in advancing the discussion and implementation of mental health in primary care, however its implementation is still incipient
