RESUMO

The knowledgement of the planktonic community is very important, as the phytoplankton produce the organic matter through the photosynthesis, and the zooplankton is na important link in the energy transfer in the form phytoplanktonbacterioplankton or in he form of organic particle detritus to the other throphic levels. Studies about the mesozooplankton were carried out at the Barra das Jangadas estuarine system, Pernambuco, Brazil (8Â14â36âS, 34Â56â28âW) in order to assess the structure community in a temporal series. Sampling was carried out with a plankton net 300 μm mesh size, during the dry (January/2001) and rainy (July/2001) seasons, in four tides (high, ebb, low, flood) during seven consecutive days, from a neap tide to a spring tide. It was identified 56 taxa, distributed in 11 phyla, being most abundant and diverse Crustacea with 89.8% of the community. The average density during the dry season varied from 9.24 to 1,550.55 org.m-3. During the rainy season the density varied from 14.41 to 481.95 org.m-3. Higjer densities were registered during flood amd ebb tides in both seasons. The meroplanktonic Crustacea (Brachyura zoeae) were very frequent and abundant showing their ecological role in the estuarine throphic web. Species diversity varied in the dry season from 0.440 to 3.367 bits.ind-1, and in the rainy season from 0.66 to 2.921 bits.ind-1. The low diversity values occurred due Brachyura zoeae dominance. Cluster analysis showed two groups. One composed by marine eurihaline species and the second by estuarine indicators. In agreement with the obtained results it is observed that the community mesozooplanktonic is biodiversity, and that not only the environmental variables (salinity and temperature), as well as, regimes of tides of biotic factors might have influenced the composition in that community
