Rosalina e as batalhadoras : o sujeito, a trajetória e o projeto como elementos transformadores da realidade num grupo social periférico

RESUMO

This research is aimed at describing and analyzing the steps which lead an individual to recreate himself as a subject of his own reality, to effectively play a role as a social actor able to produce freedom of action and to encourage the fight against inertia and social standstill -, and build, within a public space, a community environment conducive to communication and power. By means of the analysis of life reports of Rosalina Batista, a community leader, the study discusses the capacity for social change encouraged by a semiliterate woman who was capable of bringing together a remarkable amount of knowledge, of creating relevant dominions, of organizing her own perceptions and experiences, to develop projects which reinvented her personal reality and modified the routes of life of the inhabitants of a peripheral district in Londrina-PR. The author of this dissertation accompanied, during the last few years, the path of Rosalina Batista within the projects conducted by her in a community center named Virtual Library, created by the Associação das Mulheres Batalhadoras do Jardim Franciscato. Thus, while acting as an observer, he was able to gather the data from the perspective of a participant. The theory and methodological procedures were drawn from phenomenology and allowed for the visualization of the phenomenon as perceived through life reports. They further allowed to prove that the capacity of solving problems may be found within the community itself and reinforced the belief that it is not as lacking as it may appear, of heads and minds capable of handling a certain amount of knowledge and “contaminate” other sectors of the community which have not yet “awakened” for the perception such knowledge conveys. Other important belief is that social sciences, for their capacity of expanding the conditions for handling the symbolic material raised, may turn the individuals studied into users of these contributions in the data gathered through the described procedure.
