RESUMO

This dissertation work presents a comparative study of parameters that control the effectiveness of the main base isolation systems used in the building protection under a seismic excitation. Also, it is availed the efficient of parameter as: friction coefficient, isolator period, damping coefficient, structural stiffness, and structural period by means of comparative dynamics response obtained in the time domain of isolated and nonisolated buildings. Numerical simulations of couple differential equations systems that govern the superstructure-isolators behavior are set up using the simulink program of Matlab. For evaluating the influence of higher vibration modes in the superstructureisolator behavior are used two and six-degree-of-freedom building dynamics models under a seismic acceleration components of EL Centro (1940), Kobe (1995) and Loma Prieta (1989) earthquake. Additionally, isolators effectiveness of New Zeland (NZ) is examined for controlling the maximum 3D building vibrations. Finally are presented the conclusions of the results found in this study.
