RESUMO

Many factors contribute for rice culture low yield some of them related to mineral ntrition Eventhoug silicon (Si) has not been considered essential physiological yet its uptable brings a host of beneficts to rice culture thus showing its âagronomic essencialityâ for sustenable production and improved yield Simultaneously its necessary to study cultivars response to doses for better rice yield results The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Si in plant growth and grain yield content and accumulation of Si in upland rice cultivars under greenhouse condition in ortic Quartzarenic Neosol (RQo) This research was carried out in the Deartment of Soil Science of the Federal University of Lavras (Lavras MG)from September 2005 to February 2006 The experimental desing was completely randomized in 5x2 factorial scheme with four replications Treatments consisted of five Si doses (0; 0,15; 0,30; 0,45 and 0,6 g dm-3) and two cultivars (BRSMG Conai and BRSMG Curinga) Si application did not affect plant growth nor grain yield wich differed only between cultivars Si content and accumulation varied between cultivars witch responded linearl to doses increase As for Si shoot accumulation there was significant difference for doses and cultivars separately but not for the interaction between them
