RESUMO

The study aimed to collect a dataset indexes to calculate and compare the reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle herds using different methods, combining the results with the incidence of reproductive problems, such as abortion, uterine infection grades 1, 2 and 3 , ovarian cysts and retention of placenta. The frequencies of these diseases were respectively 5.0%, 7.2%, 5.0%, 2.1%, 1.4% and 8.1%. The average herd of IP obtained by different methods showed a variation from 13.3 to 15.2 months. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) between them. Evaluations by the methods of Johnson et al (1964) and BUTENDIECK et al (1972) showed, respectively, reproductive efficiency of 79.5 and 77.8%. Although regarded as the most efficient methods of Wilcox et al. (1957), whose average found in the same herd was 90.2%, there was no significant difference between the results obtained by three methods. According to the IP of the herds studied in the last 12 months it was estimated that 8 properties no longer produce about 893 liters of milk daily. Computing is the average price of a liter of milk paid to producers of R$ 0.80, after one year losses were estimated in R$ 260,756.00 with decrease in milk yeld. Sum up the losses to an approximate replacement total of 82 calves per year are born who left in the eight properties, decreasing herd
