RESUMO

Hydroelectricity (hydropower) is one branch of water resources engineering, which uses water (river flows) producing electricity. A hydroelectric undertaking, besides providing electricity and its comfort, it also allows the establishment of other productive activities, which provides a good economic and social development of the population (social responsability). Nevertheless, this study aims to focus on detection of potencial hydropower in regions of temporal and spartial scarcity of hydrological data by designing cumulative probability producing adjusted flow duration curve for use of Gamma distribution function. In this context, In order to achieve the goals of the present work were collected monthly stream flow data from 27 stations in fluviometric selected main courses from 11 major river basins in Mozambique to support the calculation of gamma distribution functions. After were calculated cumulative functions and parameters of Gamma distribution function, which were adjusted at the same moment and by the determination and preparation of the duration curve adjusted. Then, we extracted the flows (Q85), and the physical variables of the flow (drainage area, slope and length of the river) extracted from the numerical model of the Land to help the process of regionalization. Thus, with the help of the equation of regionalization were calculated hydroelectric potential. The criteria used for selection of the hydroelectric potential were based on two principles: drop height exceeding 2 m and hydroelectric potential above 10 KW. however, the prospect for hydroelectric potential in Mozambique in this research resulted in 2991 hydroelectric potential. These results are considered preliminary. In that case, improved reliability is recommended to be made further socioeconomic and environmental studies in the identified areas. This study showed uncertainties in actual values of potential calculated, because it was built up during the research study on the homogeneous regions of the region concerned; discarded for insufficient data (27 fluviometric stations, geology, soil type, rainfall, river basin , etc.).
