RESUMO
Regarding the strong connection between canopy leaf biochemical compound and spectral features, this research is aimed at: evaluating the effect of the senesced leaves on hyperspectral orbital data from sugarcane canopies; using PROSAILH modeling to point out less sensitive spectral indices to sugarcane canopy structure; and developing statistical models relating sugarcane canopy chlorophyll content to hyperspectral indices to map surface canopy chlorophyll variability from Hyperion image. Five sugar cane varieties growing through different phenological cycle were selected to build and test theoretical statical models. The best predictive model (r = -0,97, r^2 = 0,94, RMEQ = 2,39µg Ccl.cm^-2MV e CV(RMEQ) = 9 %) came out from PRI2 spectral index which was simulated in the PROSAILH mode. The model performed satisfactorily on estimating canopy chlorophyll content (r = 0,43, RMEQ = 2,92µg Ccl.cm^-2MV e CV(RMEQ) = 10%) regardless it has shown low r2 value (r^2 = 0,18). Finally, the model was used to produce a theoretical map of sugar cane chlorophyll content variability from Hyperion index image. Variability of leaf chlorophyll content acquired from biochimical analysis are suposed to impose low chlorophyll variability over sugarcane chlorophyll dispersion map.
