RESUMO
The present study aimed to determine the properties of wood and charcoal from different clones of Eucalyptus spp. Six clones at 7.5 years old were evaluated and the samples were from a clonal test of a forestry company, located in the city of Lassance, Minas Gerais, Brazil. For wood, basic density, heart/sapwood ratio, morphological analysis of fibers and pores, chemical and elementary composition of wood, syringyl/guaiacyl ratio (S/G), calorific value, cellulose crystallinity index, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA / DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were determined. Calorific value, elementary composition, TG / DTG and DSC of commercial samples of cellulose, xylan and lignin were also determined. Carbonizations in laboratory oven were done, under electrical heating with total time of 4.5 hours and heating middle taxes of 1,67C.min-1 for charcoal quality evaluation and charcoal, condensable and non-condensable gases gravimetric yields were checked. After this, the levels of volatile materials, ash and fixed carbon were determined, in addition to calorific value, bulk density, elementary composition and pores morphological analysis. The experiment was installed on completely randomized design, with three repetitions. The obtained data was submitted to analysis of variance and when differences were established, a Tukey test was done. Pearson correlation coefficient was used for association of wood and charcoal characteristics. In all analyzes, the level of 95% of significance was adopted. The yield and quality of charcoal were significantly influenced by the group of wood properties. Although all clones have submitted satisfactory wood properties to produce charcoal for steelmaking, clone 6 stood out and, conversely, clone 4 showed inferior properties to those of others.
