RESUMO

Concerns about information security becomes increasingly more primordial, leading organizations, including managers and individuals to gain minimum knowledge on information security and information leak prevention. Over time models were created texts and general references to basic precautions and instructions in the technological environment, with the evolution of these attitudes were created through organizations and public institutions more specific rules in order to standardize information systems in general. Further came the development and application of specific models to information systems, enabling more security, but not ideal. The current challenge that increasingly mobile and distributed organizations face is how to protect their information. This study addresses the concepts of information security, prevention of leakage or misuse of data in a public organization, aiming to expand their capacity to protect the information. As a descriptive research, exposes certain features of a phenomenon (data loss in organizations), establishing relationships between different variables involved, and a immediate need, solving a specific problem, so therefore practical purpose. As for the means of investigation, it is bibliographic, by presenting a systematic study developed based on materials published in books and electronic data bases, providing analytical tools for the research in question. It also figures as a case study because it is limited to a public organization, having the character of depth and detail. We conclude that, according to the result of the proposed study and detailed analysis of the events collected in the use of data loss prevention sysem (DLP), its adoption solves many of the problems identified in the study, because it is a system effective against the risks associated with unauthorized transfer of data in the organization.
