RESUMO

This work had the purpose to propose a security and health at work management system for the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), aiming the continuous improvement of the labor conditions, eliminating or reducing the health damages and the causes of employment-related accidents in the Institution. The research emphasized the forest sectors work conditions evaluations from the Viçosa Campus. The specific objectives were: evaluation of the current UFV work health and security management system; accidents risks and work-related illnesses identification in the forest sectors of the Viçosa Campus; and the identification of a management system to be implanted in the Institution. For evaluation of the current system, documentary research had been carried through, complemented with interviews in the sectors with performances related to the security and health at work in the UFV. It was verified that the University does not have a specific work security and health system, counting only on distinct and not integrated initiatives of sectors like the Health Division, Security Service and Work Hygiene, Psychosocial Orientation Service and Fire Department, which try to minimize such problems. The accidents risks and occupational illnesses were identified by the registers of the At-work Accidents Communication and in the work places. The results showed elevated participation of the forest sector in the numbers of accidents registered in the University to be mentioned the lack of Individual Protection Equipment and, amongst the main presented risks, are distinguished the physical, by noise, and ergonomic accidents, that can be found in all sectors. The management system according to orientations contained in OHSAS 18001/1999 Norm was proposed for implantation.
